Packing and getting ready for a big move in Binghamton is not a favorite time for most people. If your moving process is not organized, it can create a very stressful and frustrating experience. When you are planning your move, it is important to remember that not all of your belongings should be packed. Most things can be packed away and put into self storage or transported to your new location, but there are a few types of items that Laing Self Storage advises against, not be packed or stored.
Here are 5 Items that you should never pack or store:
1. Self Storage – Hazardous Items:
Some items such as batteries, gasoline, kerosene, and other flammable or toxic substances should not be moved. Talk to your moving company about how you should transport these types of products. Again, you can consider giving these away or properly disposing of them. However, 100% – do not store these items in a mobile storage unit or a self storage unit.
2. Self Storage – Perishables:
Perishable items should never be stored in a storage unit as they can decompose and make a mess in the unit. Perishables such as food and plants should be properly packed if you intend to move them with you. If possible, consider giving away your perishable items before your move.
3. Self Storage – Important Documents:
All important documents (birth certificates, social security cards, financial documents, etc.) should be placed in a fire-safe container and kept close.
4. Self Storage – Suspicious/Illegal Items:
Any illegal substances or stolen items are banned from being stored in your self-storage unit. This includes weapons and guns. Surveillance cameras are installed throughout our buildings. Police have been known to issue search warrants of suspected storage units
5. Self Storage – Living Things:
This is an obvious one but in todays day and age, we need to list it! Leave pets and plants off your storage list. Plants and animals will die in storage. Storage units are for inanimate objects only.
One last thing – Its also important to pack your content in products that will keep them safe from water damage, varmints, dust & dirt – that is why we suggest renting our Laing Storage Totes. They are super easy to use and makes like easy!
